Early life and background
Iqbal Singh Kartarpuri was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, into a Punjabi Sikh family. His early years were spent in Lucknow, where he experienced a multicultural social environment that contributed to his understanding of diversity, social responsibility and public life.
In 1984, following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the disturbances that occurred in several parts of India, his family migrated from Lucknow to Punjab. The relocation during a period of social and political uncertainty significantly influenced his outlook on justice, equality and constitutional values.
Education
After settling in Punjab, Kartarpuri completed his education in Ludhiana. He pursued his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of Lucknow, graduating in 1999.
During his academic years, he developed an interest in constitutional law, civil rights and public administration.
Legal career
Kartarpuri commenced legal practice in Punjab after enrolling himself as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana in the year 2000. Beginning with civil and criminal litigation, he gradually expanded his areas of practice to include banking law, commercial litigation, insolvency matters, arbitration, constitutional law and human rights.
Over the course of more than two decades, he has represented clients before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, District Courts, Consumer Commissions, Debt Recovery Tribunals, Commercial Courts, Arbitration Tribunals and various statutory authorities.
