Sahanawaz Hussain (born 12 February 2000) is an Indian painter, designer, and writer from Farakka in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. He is known for introducing Nawazi Painting, a modern visual art style that blends geometric abstraction with nature-inspired imagery.

Hussain is the founder of the Hussain Art studio and has contributed to contemporary art through his experimental approach to colour, geometry, and visual storytelling.

Background and education

Sahanawaz Hussain was born in Farakka, located in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. He spent his early years in the nearby village of Tildanga, where the natural surroundings and wildlife later influenced the themes present in his artwork.

He completed his schooling at Delhi Public School, Farakka, and Kendriya Vidyalaya NTPC Farakka. Hussain later pursued higher education in Geography at Krishnath College, which is affiliated with Kalyani University. He subsequently completed a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from Amity University Kolkata.

Early artistic development

Hussain demonstrated an early interest in drawing and creative expression. During his academic years he began experimenting with different painting techniques and artistic styles, gradually developing a distinctive approach that incorporated geometric structures and vibrant colour combinations.

His early artworks frequently explored themes related to nature, including birds, animals, and rural landscapes.

Introduction of Nawazi Painting

In 2019, Hussain introduced Nawazi Painting, a contemporary visual art style influenced by geometric art and abstract art. The name “Nawazi” is derived from his own name and reflects his personal artistic concept.

The style utilises geometric forms such as squares, triangles, rectangles, and cubes arranged to create stylised depictions of animals and birds. Bright colour palettes and decorative outlines are commonly used to enhance visual depth and composition.

Artistic approach

Nawazi paintings often explore themes related to nature, harmony, and visual abstraction. The geometric patterns encourage viewers to examine the artwork carefully in order to recognise the forms embedded within the structured design.

Hussain typically creates his artworks using acrylic paint on various surfaces including canvas, paper, walls, clay pots, wooden crafts, bamboo items, and jute products.
