Early Life and Background

Jay Patel 2

Jay Patel was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, into a Gujarati family with strong roots in the diamond business. Growing up in a business-oriented household, he developed an early entrepreneurial mindset that fueled his global career in technology, social enterprise, and the arts.[2]

Career

Jay Patel currently serves as the Chairman of Med Data Science, a company dedicated to advanced data-driven healthcare and diagnostic innovations. He also leads multiple technology ventures, including DTV Motor Corporation, and actively invests in breakthrough technologies addressing complex global challenges.

As an entrepreneur, Jay has co-founded several companies that have provided cutting-edge solutions to the U.S. government in the areas of education, defense, and healthcare. One of these companies was eventually acquired by a private equity firm, reflecting his success in the tech and government contracting sectors.[3]

Jay’s philanthropic interests align closely with his family. His brother, Paresh Ghelani, is a member of the Board of Trustees at the XPRIZE Foundation, a global platform that fosters innovation through incentive-based competitions. The Foundation collaborates with leading figures such as Larry Page, Ratan Tata, Peter Diamandis, James Cameron, Anousheh Ansari, and Robert Weiss to address global issues like health, sanitation, women’s safety, clean water access, and waste management. Jay Patel supports many of these causes through his own technological and humanitarian initiatives.

He is also working with Dr. David Struckenberg, Vice Chairman of Genesis Systems, on addressing the global drinking water crisis. The company is developing scalable atmospheric water generation technology to provide renewable water to underserved communities worldwide.[4][5]

Philanthropy and Social Impact

Jay Patel is widely known for his humanitarian contributions. In collaboration with actor Randeep Hooda, he initiated a large-scale reforestation project using the Miyawaki method, resulting in the plantation of over 300,000 trees across India.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jay played a key role in providing medical aid and supplies. In India, he supported the PM CARES Fund and aided health institutions and frontline workers in cities like Mumbai and Ahmedabad. In the United States, through his organization Global Impact Innovation (GII), he led the production and distribution of nearly 100,000 gallons of sanitizer, with major donations going to hospitals, homeless shelters, and emergency responders.[6]

Patel has a long-standing record of community service. After the 9/11 attacks in the U.S., he and his friend Tom Ryan volunteered with firefighters to assist fellow citizens. He also worked with the Red Cross during the 2003 Northeast Blackout to evacuate people and distribute emergency supplies.[7]

He is a patron of global sports development, notably supporting Vishwaraj Jadeja, an international ice speed skater representing India. Patel's support has helped popularize ice skating in non-traditional regions and has inspired a generation of new athletes.

Filmography

Jay Patel is passionate about arts and storytelling. He has produced films in both Hollywood and Bollywood, often exploring humanitarian and social themes. His 2022 Hollywood film I'm Gonna Tell God Everything received critical acclaim and awards for shedding light on the horrors of war and its effects on women and children.[8][9]
