Rishi Kumar Chatterjee (born March 1, 1979) is a renowned music composer and tabla player based in Kolkata, India. Known for his versatile musical talent and deep-rooted knowledge of Indian classical music, Rishi has made significant contributions to both traditional and contemporary music genres.[1][2]

Early Life and Education

Rishi Kumar Chatterjee was born on March 1, 1979, in Kolkata, India, into a family with a rich musical heritage. He is the grandson of renowned singer, composer and music director Ramkumar Chattopadhyay, whose influence played a significant role in shaping Rishi's musical journey. His father, Srikumar Chattopadhyay, a distinguished classical Singer and mother, Namita Roy Chatterjee, also nurtured his interest in music from a young age.

Chatterjee received his early education at St. Josef School and later pursued his higher studies at Scottish Church College, where he completed his post graduation in English Literature.[3][4][5]

Career

Rishi Kumar Chatterjee embarked on his professional musical journey at the young age of thirteen and has been actively performing and composing since 1992. He specializes in playing various types of taalbadya instruments, with the tabla being his primary focus.

Throughout his career, Chatterjee has collaborated with renowned artists and musicians, including Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, Ustad Rashid Khan, Haimanti Shukla, Shipra Basu, and Penaz Masani. He has also had the privilege of playing alongside his grandfather, Ramkumar Chattopadhyay, and father, Srikumar Chattopadhyay, further enriching his musical experiences.[6][7]
