Dr. Jitu Lal Meena (born 1 June 1971) is an Indian medical professional, hospital administrator and healthcare quality expert. He is known for pioneering institutional quality assurance frameworks in India’s public healthcare system and for serving as India’s first District Quality Assurance Officer and first State Quality Assurance Officer. He has also held senior leadership positions in the National Health Authority (NHA) and the National Medical Commission (NMC), Government of India.
His work has focused on accreditation, quality standards implementation, public hospital reforms, and strengthening universal health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).

Career
Dr. Meena began his career as a Medical Officer in Gujarat, serving in the Mobile Health Unit (Mandor–Dahod) and Primary Health Centre, Limdi–Dahod (2000–2002).
He later served as District Quality Assurance Officer (2002–2005) and State Quality Assurance Officer (2008–2018) in Gujarat, where structured quality assurance cells were established across public healthcare institutions.
In 2018, he joined the National Health Authority under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, serving as General Manager and later Joint Director. He was associated with hospital empanelment, development of graded quality standards, operational manuals, Green Channel Payment initiatives, and claim process reforms.
Between 2022 and 2024, he served as Member, Medical Assessment & Rating Board, National Medical Commission. During this period, new undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats were added, and NMC received accreditation from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
Since 8 January 2025, he has been serving as Joint Director, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
