Jyoti Satish Bhatt

Mrs. Jyoti Satish Bhatt (born 4 November 1954), also known as Jyoti Shukla, is an Indian poet, writer, and retired government accountant known for her contributions to Gujarati literature. She has published short stories, poetry collections, and columns in prominent newspapers and magazines since the early 1980s. Her work often reflects social values, emotional depth, and cultural sensibilities.

Early life and education

Jyoti Bhatt was born on 4 November 1954 in Dholka, Gujarat, India. She grew up in a disciplined and value-driven household; her father was an Income Tax officer and her mother a homemaker. Being the youngest of three siblings, she received strong encouragement to pursue education and the arts.

She completed her schooling from Smt. Jijabai Bhimji Girls High School in 1971. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Literature from SV Arts College, Ahmedabad, in 1974. In 1975, she earned her B.Ed. in Literature from MN Shukla College of Education and later pursued a Master’s in Literature from Gujarat University between 1985 and 1987.

Career

Bhatt started her professional career in the government sector, working as an accountant under the Public Works Department (PWD) until her retirement. Parallel to her government service, she cultivated her writing skills and began publishing her work in regional publications.

In 1983, she began contributing weekly columns to Shree, a special edition of the Gujarat Samachar newspaper, and continued until 2001. Her poetry, ghazals, and stories have also been featured in magazines such as Jalaramdeep, Chandani, Navjivan, Mumbai Samachar, and Janmabhoomi Pravasi.

She has a strong presence in digital literature platforms, notably publishing 41 eBooks on Matrubharti, a regional-language content platform, with over 150,000 downloads.
