Umashanker Yadav (born 20 August 1968) is an Indian entrepreneur, author, film producer, and literary administrator based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He is the founder of publishing house Serene Publishers and Distributors, production banner SERENE FILMS, and the founder director of the Ahmedabad International Literature Festival (AILF) under the Ikon Education Foundation.

A veteran of the Indian Air Force, Yadav served fifteen years in military electronics before transitioning into enterprise technology, book publishing, and Hindi cinema.

Early life and military career

Yadav was born on 20 August 1968 in Thakur Ganj, Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, India. He completed his secondary education through the Uttar Pradesh Board.

In 1984, he briefly studied mechanical engineering at a polytechnic institute before enlisting in the Indian Air Force in 1985 as a Radar Fitter in the electronics stream. He served for fifteen years across various defense postings before taking voluntary retirement in 2001 to launch his entrepreneurial career.

Business and publishing

In 2004, Yadav established Ikon Barcode Solutions Pvt. Ltd., an ITES enterprise, followed by Ikon Label Industries in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

He later expanded into media by founding **Serene Publishers and Distributors**. In 2015, he authored his debut English poetry collection, *Beyond Dreamz*, which was released by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel.

Ahmedabad International Literature Festival

In 2016, Yadav founded the Ahmedabad International Literature Festival (AILF) under the non-profit Ikon Education Foundation. Serving as Founder Director alongside co-directors, he built AILF into a multi-day annual cultural platform bringing together writers, filmmakers, journalists, and academics across Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu, and international literature.

Film production and screenwriting

Yadav established film production house **SERENE FILMS** in 2024. The banner initially produced two short films streaming on WAVES OTT: *Heer Aur Ranjha* (Hindi) and the co-produced Gujarati short *Sukhnath Mogra Ni Varta*.

Yadav wrote, scripted, produced, and acted in the 2026 Hindi feature film Drop Out. Directed by Omkar Pethkar and filmed in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, the film deals with academic pressure and youth mental health.

Personal life

Yadav is married to Umlesh Yadav. The couple resides in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with their daughter, Serene Yadav.
