Umashanker Yadav (born 20 August 1968) is an Indian entrepreneur, author, and filmmaker. He is the founder of Serene Publishers, SERENE FILMS, and the initiator of the Ahmedabad International Literature Festival under his charitable trust, Ikon Education Foundation.

Early life and education

Yadav was born in Thakur Ganj, Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, India. He completed high school from the Uttar Pradesh Board with first rank. In 1984, he joined a polytechnic for mechanical engineering but left midway to join the Indian Air Force in 1985 as a Radar Fitter in the electronic stream. After 15 years of service, he took voluntary retirement to pursue entrepreneurship.

He earned an MA in English from JNV University, Jodhpur, an MBA in Marketing from IGNOU, and a PG Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication from IGNOU.

Career

Early career

In 2004, Yadav founded the ITES company Ikon Barcode Solutions Pvt. Ltd.. Later, he established a manufacturing unit for self-adhesive labels in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and launched his book publishing company, Serene Publishers and Distributors.

In 2015, he authored the English poetry book Beyond Dreamz, launched by then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel.

Film and media

In 2025, Yadav wrote the story and script for the Hindi feature film Drop Out. He founded the film production company SERENE FILMS in 2024 and produced two short films: Heer Aur Ranjha (Hindi) and Sukhnath Mogra Ni Varta (Gujarati, co-produced), streaming on WAVES OTT.

Literature festival

Yadav founded the Ahmedabad International Literature Festival in 2016 under the Ikon Education Foundation.

Personal life

Yadav is married to Umlesh Yadav and lives in Ahmedabad with their daughter, Serene Yadav.
